Jake Kennedy
Jake started his writing career creating commercials for London's prestigious Capital Radio, before moving deeper into the world of advertising as a marketing and sales exec at Capital Radio, Associated Newspapers in London and BMC Media, Sydney. Eight years later, he discovered his love of film and left the advertising world behind to focus on this new career path. He studied film making at the university of Sydney and the Los Angeles Film School, majoring in writing and directing. |
Jake is a true film maker, constantly drawing upon his experiences over the last 9 years as Second Unit Director, Production and Art Department Assistants on such feature films as Mission impossible II, 2001 Maniacs and Jolly Roger. He has written and directed 13 short films. His comedies have screened on TV in England, the US and Canada and have been screened at festivals across 3 continents. His last 2 short films have been forays into the world of horror. His film 'Black' won him a 'Best Director' Award at the Festival Du Court Metrage De Lyon in Brussels, as well as screening at numerous festivals in the US and abroad. We All Fall Down screened at 25 film festivals and won 13 awards, including 'Best Director' at the Chicago Horror Film Festival and, 'Best Short Horror Film' at "Shriekfest", "Salem Horror Film Festival", Toofy Film Fest and the 'Fangoria Blood Drive II' where it was picked up for global DVD distribution. His first horror feature film: Days of Darkness, was picked up by Lionsgate and released January 2008. It won 5 awards and accolades, including the 'New Visions Award' from the International Horror and Sci Fi Film Festival, and a 'Cinematic Excellence Award' from Rogue Cinema.
Penance is his latest horror masterpiece and one of the most "beautifully brutal films" (Fangoria) in the last ten years. Sean Decker at Dread Central calls it 'absolutely disturbing' and Ryan Rotten at Shock 'til You Drop says: "This film will make you want to crawl into the shower and scrub your skin clean off. "With some of the most controversial moments ever committed to film it is based on real events and a terrifying true character. Don't watch this film alone as "PENANCE delivers more cringe inducing terror than even the most hardcore horror fan will be able to endure" (Fangoria)! Drawing from past masters and modern influences, Jake's horror films have a dark and unsettling nature about them that leave audiences both shaken and stirred. |
